Dear Proactive Parents: We want to take this opportunity to give you an update of the progress in safety equipment development that apply to your young athletes participating in baseball, martial arts and hockey. A study by Dr. Mark Link of the New England Medical Center and Dr. Adolph Hutter of Massachusetts General Hospital showed that an impact to a child's chest had to occur at a certain point in the heart's beat to have catastrophic consequences. The study proved that the use of softer baseballs provided some degree of increased protection. This occurred because the impact force to the chest was spread over a longer time period, thus reducing the overall force transferred to the heart that could cause it to go into ventricular fibrillation. The Heart-Gard® was designed to not only increase the time of impact, but to also spread the force over a significantly larger area, further reducing the force transferred to the heart. Hopefully, this information gives you a better idea of what we are trying to accomplish, providing you with the most effective, cost conscious and wearable product for your money. Please contact us if you have any suggestions, and let us know if we can help you in any way with league or coaches concerns.
